Contact Labels help you classify contacts by type, segment, role, or business meaning. Labels are used inside contact profiles and can help your team organize contacts for filtering, segmentation, broadcasts, automation, and reporting.
Examples of contact labels:
- Lead
- Customer
- VIP
- Supplier
- Partner
- Support Case
- Event Attendee

🔗 Where Labels Are Used #
Contact Labels appear in several areas of the platform:
- Contact List: Display and filter contacts by label.
- Create/Edit Contact: Assign a label to a contact.
- Import Contacts: Optionally apply a label during import.
- Broadcast Audience: Segment customers by contact label.
- Live Chat: View the customer label in the conversation list and customer details.
- Analytics: Analyze customers by saved profile information.
⚠️ Common Issues #
The label does not appear after creating it #
Refresh the page or confirm the label was saved successfully.
Cannot create a label #
Possible reasons:
- The label field is empty.
- The label exceeds 50 characters.
- A duplicate or database validation rule rejected it.
- Your user does not have the add permission.
Cannot edit a label #
Possible reasons:
- Your user does not have edit permission.
- The label no longer exists.
- The new value failed validation.
The deleted label disappeared from contacts #
This is expected. Deleting a label unassigns contacts from that label, but does not delete the contacts.
✅ Best Practices #
- Keep labels short and easy to understand.
- Use labels for contact type, not temporary campaign names.
- Avoid creating duplicate labels with similar meanings.
- Review labels before deleting them.
- Use groups for audience membership and labels for contact classification.
